Matchmaking Event: Skills for the Green & Digital Transition

In February 2025, Digital4Sustainability, in collaboration with the Digital Large-Scale Partnership (Digital LSP), organised the first engagement event with the Pact for Skills: a dedicated matchmaking session designed to connect stakeholders working at the intersection of the green and digital transitions.

The session combined an informative programme with structured networking opportunities, created to stimulate collaboration across the digital and sustainability ecosystems and help participants explore practical ways to address Europe’s growing skills needs.

From project introduction to practical collaboration

The event opened with an introduction to Digital4Sustainability, outlining the project’s objectives, scope, and mission to address skills gaps where digital innovation and sustainability priorities meet. Participants received an overview of how the project supports the development of future-ready skills for professionals delivering sustainability-driven digital solutions.

The format was intentionally action-oriented: an informative session to align on needs and opportunities, followed by structured matchmaking designed to turn shared insights into new connections and potential collaborations.

Key insights: roles and skills for sustainability-driven digital work

A central highlight of the session was the presentation, “Roles and Skills for Digital Professionals Providing Sustainability Solutions”, where key results from the Digital4Sustainability Roles and Skills Needs Analysis were shared with participants.

The presentation offered evidence-based insights into:

  • Emerging professional roles at the crossroads of digital technologies and sustainability
  • Current and future skills gaps in the labour market
  • Trends shaping occupational profiles across management, consultancy, data, and technical domains
  • The increasing need for professionals who combine digital expertise, sustainability knowledge, and transversal competences
  • The importance of targeted upskilling and reskilling pathways aligned with real industry and market demands

By sharing these findings, the event gave participants a clearer understanding of how skills development must evolve to support Europe’s green and digital ambitions—and what employers, training providers, and ecosystem partners can do to respond more effectively.

Matchmaking that turns insight into action

The dedicated matchmaking activity that followed enabled participants to connect directly, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations to address these challenges collectively. The structured networking format supported practical conversations on joint initiatives, partnership opportunities, and shared approaches to upskilling and reskilling.

As Digital4Sustainability continues its work, engagement moments like this help align stakeholders around a shared priority: building a workforce that can deliver digital solutions with sustainability at their core.
