Peter Walgemoed is the founder of Carelliance, a company specialising in digital stewardship and preservation. He has significant expertise in setting up data ecosystems, particularly through data commons and platform cooperatives. Peter emphasises the importance of governance and organisation in how data is used to support individuals in acquiring new digital sustainability skills.
An international thought leader in the health information, life sciences, and technology sectors, Peter focuses on data-driven healthcare, data space curation, vendor neutrality, and user-driven platform cooperatives. He founded Carelliance in 2000, aiming to build trust in electronic communication across technology service providers. Prior to this, he worked in international product and business development at Philips Medical Systems.
Carelliance’s mission is to empower digital health SMEs by advocating for a data commons approach, treating data as an infinite resource for collective learning and innovation. Through its LabSpace.coop platform, Carelliance supports the creation and stewardship of these data commons, fostering a diverse and innovative marketplace that challenges monopolistic practices. This approach aligns with EU principles of digital sovereignty and inclusivity.
As a member of the Digital4Sustainability Advisory Board, Peter brings extensive experience in data governance and platform cooperatives, contributing to the project’s goal of upskilling professionals for the green and digital transition.
